Although laminate floors are some of the most durable and resilient flooring solutions available right now, they still require a certain amount of proper care and maintenance.

In comparison to other flooring choices, laminate care and maintenance is very little and far apart.

When still new, the only major commitment you have to your laminate flooring is to keep it clean on a regular basis.

The floor is the biggest and most visible surface in your home so it makes sense to keep it clean and fresh as often as possible.

Proper cleaning is utterly important if you want to keep your laminate floor looking better for longer. One thing that you must absolutely not to is to steam clean your laminate floors.

Don’t even think about applying steam cleaning equipment to this particular type of flooring because temperature, high pressure and moisture will cause irreversible damage and cause to replace your floor, for sure.

Mind you the same applies to hardwood floors, regardless of their finish.

More so, hardwood floors are expensive and ruining them through steam cleaning will put a big ...
... dent in your budget.

You can prevent scratches on laminate flooring by placing mats in front of doors, so that small pieces of gravel or other, sharp-edged particles aren’t rolled around by foot traffic thus causing scratches to the top layer.

Although this top layer is very strong and durable, sharp objects under pressure will leave a mark.

If you are looking to replace or install new wood flooring in Manchester, you should check out the local specialist suppliers and the better hardware stores for suitable deals and useful maintenance advice.

One other thing to watch out for is flooding the laminated flooring.

Just like hardwood, laminate doesn’t tolerate too much water and doesn’t like being wet as this will eventually cause it to swell and buckle, not as much as hardwood but still, it will be a problem.

In other words, be sparing and moderate in the application of different liquid cleaners and solvents – use only as much as you need to get the job done and possibly wipe off excess amount at the end.

In terms of maintenance, you should never do to laminate what you do to hardwood floors i.e. never sand, lacquer or polish laminate as it is not wood.

Also, avoid spilling liquids on laminate, if you do – wipe it quick.
