Cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages abound to help visitors enjoy Disneyland. There is a secret world on the premises that most visitors are unaware of where wild cats roam the park at midnight, Mickey Mouse hides in the wall paper, and celebrities sip martinis behind closed doors.

The following secrets have been revealed by Lonely Planet:

• Every night after closing 200 feral cats are released into the park to help keep the rodent population under control.

• Hundreds of “Hidden Mickeys” are scattered across the park in additional to the round eared Mickey Mouse emblem found throughout the park. The subtle symbols are usually difficult to find because they are camouflaged in the architecture and landscaping as well as in the smallest stylistic details such as the floral wallpaper of the First Aid station and the rust marks atop a treasure chest in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride.

• Disneyland does not serve alcohol on its premises except in a secret cocktail lounge (Club 33) tucked away above the Blue Bayou in New Orleans Square. The club has ...
... a very limited membership of only 487 and has a 14 year waiting list. The lounge has an elegant dining room and a first class wine cellar and has been host to US presidents, film stars, and foreign dignitaries.

• Visitors’ eyes tend to be “tricked” at Disneyland. The park’s design uses “forced perspective” to create optical illusions that make structures appear larger or smaller than they really are.

• At Disneyland all employees, including janitors, are cast members who are trained to follow a specific code of etiquette that helps preserve the Disney magic.

• The light always stays on in the small private apartment Walt Disney installed for his family above the Fire Department on Main Street. The lamp in the window, visible from outside, once was used to signal cast members that the boss was on the premises. Today the lamp is always lit to honor the man behind the mouse.
