Goa is one of those places that attract everyone and everything, be it jet setting corporate tsars to back-packing hippies and whole families on holiday or groups of schoolchildren accompanied by their teachers. So, it shouldn’t be any wonder that the famous beach town also acts as a magnet for couples in love, especially those who have just tied the knot. Honeymoon packages and Goa tours for couples have been and continue to be ever so popular among the middle-class, particularly with those who cannot afford trips to Paris and Greece and Switzerland and Seychelles and what not else. Here’s a list of things you and your better half can do when honeymooning in Goa.

1) Take a long, romantic walk by the beach at sunset.
That much is obvious, isn’t it? To go to Goa with a spouse but not take a long, romantic walk on the beach at sunset is just... a little bit pointless, no? We suggest staying away from the popular Baga and Varca beaches and instead heading to the lesser populated regions of the coast, namely Agonda Beach, Majorda Beach, Vagator Beach, Palolem Beach, Goa Bogmalo Beach and Arambol Beach. Even with ...
... the growing number of tourists, honeymooners have plenty of isolated spots to choose from.

2) Visit the Dr. Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary.
Bird-watching doesn’t sound like the kind of thing you’d do on your honeymoon, does it? But wait till you enter the secluded premises of Goa’s only reserve for the ornithological species and see for yourself if you aren’t tempted to spend an entire day there with your partner. The experience needn’t be about the birds themselves, but rather about partaking in activity of patience with your better half, all the while surrounded by a pin drop silence save the chirping of birds.

3) Visit Dona Paula Beach.
If there’s one place suited for lovers in Goa, it is the Dona Paula beach, named after Dona Paula de Menezes, the daughter of the Portugese Viceroy. According to legend, the Viceroy’s daughter had fallen in love with a poor fisherman in Goa, and this match was rejected by the Viceroy who forbade Dona Paula from ever seeing him again. Stricken with grief, Dona Paula resorted to suicide, throwing herself to the harsh Arabian Sea from a rock. Subsequently, the Viceroy christened the spot of her death as Dona Paula Beach. It is heartbreaking to see how a beach of such beauty can be steeped in such tragedy, and yet heartening to see that such love exists in the world.

Forget Paris. Forget Switzerland and Greece and Italy and Hawaii and the Bahamas and Bora Bora and every other popular honeymoon destination, because really, who needs a pointlessly extravagant location to go to when you’ve got enough incredible honeymoon packages and Goa tours to avail of? It’s about time we learnt to celebrate love in our country, don’t you think?
