Pilgrimage of any religion is something which every devout and religious person wishes to complete once in his or her lifetime. It is a journey which may be filled with some hardships, but once when the journey is completed the pleasure the person acquires is matched to no other experience in the world for the person.

Earlier since the means of transport and communication were so less, that people used to believe that once the person has set out for his pilgrimage he/she bids adieu to everyone, as they are unsure whether they will ever be able to make it back or not. Only few people used to return back from their journey safe and sound. That was the reason why only those people used to go for the journey that had completed all their duties.

Hajj is the Islamic journey and it is located in the Saudi Arabia. This Islamic pilgrimage is widely renowned to be one of the largest annual pilgrimages in the world. It is also known as the fifth pillar of Islam.

This spiritual journey and pilgrimage to Mecca is something which every Muslim must complete in his/her lifetime. ...
... Hajj is a demonstration of unity among the Muslim people for each other and it is their tribute to God. This auspicious period starts from the 8th and ends on the 12th of the Dhu aj-Hijjah, which are the 12th and the last month of the Islamic calendar.

The Islamic pilgrimage is related to the life of Prophet Mohammad of the 7th century. During this auspicious period Muslims from across the world join in the processions and prayers and perform their religious obligation.

This ritual of pilgrimage to Mecca begins from the time the person walks anti-clockwise seven times about the kaaba- the cube shaped building that acts as the Muslim direction of prayer, kisses the black stone in the corner of the Kaaba, runs back and forth around the hills of Al-Safa and Al-Marwah, drinks from the Zamzam well, stands vigil on the Mount Arafat and throws stones. After this the pilgrims shave their heads and perform the animal sacrifice and then celebrate their festival.

A pilgrimage must always be done with a right frame of mind. One must never think that by doing this haj one will gain something. It must always be an act as an ode to Allah to seek his blessings. A spiritual journey will cleanse you of all the impurities and will give you a new lease of life.
