Connecticut enjoys abundant water resources. The state has approximately 5,800 miles of rivers and streams. There are more than 2,300 reservoirs, lakes and ponds. Ground water is present everywhere in the state. The ground water and surface water systems are hydraulically connected. Connecticut’s geographical areas vary in water quality.

When water is considered “hard,”it means that the water is highly mineralized and contains high amounts of total dissolved solids, e.g. Various salts and dissolved minerals. The principal contributing ions are calcium and magnesium. Hard water doesn’t lend itself to lathering and makes laundering difficult. Hard water in ct is mostly calcium carbonate (temporary hardness) which is not necessarily harmful but aesthetically it can be unacceptable to the taste. The groundwater in ct is basically soft to moderately hard with one of the exceptions being a large fault line along the ridgefield, ct/new york border where the groundwater is highly mineralized.

Water softener works on the principle called "cation exchange," in which ions of mainly hardness but also iron and manganese ...
... are exchanged for sodium or potassium ions, reducing their concentrations to insignificant levels. The exchange occurs within a tank using tiny synthetic resin beads made from a special plastic.

After a period of use, the sodium or potassium ions are completely exchanged and the unit has to be "backwashed" or "regenerated." this requires the use of sodium or potassium chloride, which is loaded into a "brine tank" and dissolved to form a brine solution used to recharge the resin beads.

However, ct waters rarely have naturally occurring lead and copper, so a positive test for those metals typically indicates acidic Water Test CT. Acidic water will cause the copper to be leached from the pipes. If that is the case, you may need a water neutralizer to neutralize the low ph.

Your water softener can use either salt or potassium chloride or a combination of both. If you are on a low-sodium diet, it’s better to use kcl. Salt will add sodium to your drinking water. Potassium chloride will add potassium to your water.

Benefits of a water softener ct:

• Treats for iron, hard water, and manganese
• Eliminate rusty orange stains and rings in sinks, tubs, toilets and showers
• Soft water
• Softer skin and more manageable hair
• Soaps and shampoos can last 25% longer
• Increases water heater efficiency up to 29%
• Extends the life of plumbing, dishwashers, water heaters, and washing machines
• Enjoy whiter whites and softer laundry

Connecticut well water has some of the country’s worst iron problems. Every well water system is different. If your water well is like the before drawing, with an old style tank and/or a pit housing, the well head below the surface, needs an upgrade that can be much more sanitary, efficient and in compliance with state and local codes. If you have a jet pump, replace it with a quiet & efficient submersible. Jet pump systems can lose prime when the well water is drawn down too far. Submersible pumps never need priming

To sum up, the water in your home should be the highest quality and safe. Just remember, when it comes to solving iron water problems, especially in connecticut, who you buy from is just as important as what you buy.
