Indian Railways is the fourth largest rail network in the world and it is the only one owned and managed under the single management system. It is also connected internationally with Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh. While booking your tickets online, if you know the railway station codes, your ticket booking becomes faster. Otherwise a lot of time is spent searching for the station codes, because on the space provided for the source and destination stations you have to type the station codes instead of the name of the stations. The passenger station codes are always alphabetical in nature, but you can find station codes other than alphabetical also in Indian Railways.

When you log on to the website of IRCTC to book your tickets, you have to enter the codes of the stations from which you board the train and get down. This will provide you a list of all the trains running on that route along with their timings. Once you select the train of your choice, all you have to do is to enter the date and the code of the train. This enables you to check seat availability and book your tickets.
By giving the station code, you ...
... get the station name and all other details regarding the station and trains that pass through them. For example, if you type NDLS, you will get all information on New Delhi Railway Station as NDLS is the station code for New Delhi Railway Station. You will get to know when it was established, its history, number of platforms in the station, services offered from the station, facilities available in the station, and modernization taking place in the station. In this way you can search for any station online.
Some of the major railway stations in India are Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, Howrah Station, Chennai Central Railway Station, Sealdah Station, New Delhi Railway Station, Kharagpur Railway station, and many more.

The Howrah Station is the largest and second busiest station in India with 23 platforms. It is also the oldest railway station in India. The Chennai Central Railway Station is the headquarters of South India, and one of the oldest railway stations in the country. It is provided with book stalls, restaurants, internet browsing centers, accommodation facilities, etc. Kharagpr, in West Bengal, has the longest platform in the world, with a length of 1,072.5 meters. Here three trains can stand end to end on the same platform. Then, Sealdah Station is the busiest station.

Other than online on the website of Indian Railways and IRCTC, you can also make enquiries at the railway station or contact the call centers to get the railway station codes. Referring the Indian Railway time table also helps you get the codes of different railway stations.

Want to get the railway station code list? If so, then log in to IRCTC website and put name of your desired railway station to get the full list of codes. You can get railway station codes in matter of few minutes by putting appropriate railway station name at IRCTC website.
