Social Media Is Transforming Daily!
Recent metrics have pointed toward a possible trend that social networking isn’t as effective as it had been in the past. According to the analysts, who can’t seem to agree on the numbers at all, the effectiveness of social networks for spreading content is down anywhere from a few percentage points to almost twenty.
Those creating lesser content, which is on the rise, are having trouble getting people to interact with it.
While that news has sent some people heading for the door, others have taken a more realistic look at the information.
In fact, a study from Edison (as reported by SocialMediaExaminer) shows that social media, Twitter in particular, is far from dead. The study found that:
“43% of Americans hear or read about “tweets” almost every day in traditional media. Another 16% hear this term regularly, but not daily. TV shows such as CNN’s AC 360 and Piers Morgan Tonight are known for promoting and extending conversations to their Twitter platforms.
Every day, TV audiences are being heavily exposed to Twitter and the idea of tweeting. If your business advertises ...
... on TV (or is thinking about it), be sure to encourage your audience to take the conversation online in the form of tweets. Don’t forget to give viewers a unique hashtag to distinguish your brand!”
What is interesting, is no one who is out there proclaiming social networks ineffective has any ideas as to what a better alternate is. In fact, they all still have their social sharing buttons on their sites and blogs and are pushing their content on their platforms while proclaiming them dead. Of course it makes no sense to do that, and if their analysis was right, they’d just be advertising they were idiots and no one would do business with them.
This is another case of proclaiming the death of (insert anything Internet related here) all the while using it as if it were the answer to all your content sharing and networking needs. This happens every few months. Last year, Facebook was proclaimed dead twice. SEO has been proclaimed dead more times than anyone can count. It makes for flashy headlines so someone runs with it.
The fact is social networking isn’t dead and there is no real alternative. Create and share quality content and you’ll do fine. When you see sensationalized headlines, take them with a grain of salt. No one is too big to fail, but the era of social networking is nowhere near gone or fading away.
Those who create good content still get good traction from social networks. Those creating lesser content, which is on the rise, are having trouble getting people to interact with it. This has always been the case anywhere you go on the web.
While that news has sent some people heading for the door, others have taken a more realistic look at the information. For starters, effectiveness has not been diminished for strong brands.
