The Construction And Design Of Disposable Scalpel

The evolution of medicine is as old as that of humanity itself. Ever since the beginning, humanity has been seeking ways to cure the diseases and conditions that threaten its flourishing. There have been various threats to the survival of human beings and most of these have come from diseases and malady. Thankfully, by looking to our environment, humanity has been able to identify and make use of medicine to cure itself and even create tools such as the disposable scalpel.
The medicines used vary in design and type. There are those that can be ingested in the form of liquids or solid pills and powders. There is also surgery. The latter is where a physician actually has to puncture ones skin to treat your disease by removing or adding some parts of the body. For his to be possible, a myriad of instruments for example sutures and scalpels are required. One of these is the disposable scalpel.
A result of years of medical ...
... engineering, this scalpel is very important in surgery. Surgical scalpels are used to cut through flesh and vessels inside the body with pinpoint accuracy. Moreover, it is designed such that it rests firmly but comfortably in the hand of the surgeon wearing surgical gloves. Clearly, the disposable scalpel is a very important tool for todays surgeries.
This particular instrument is made up of two functional parts. These are the replaceable blade and the reusable handle. The disposable scalpel is designed to facilitate multiple uses. As such, the blade itself is removed from the handle after use and the sterilized before the next use. The blades are manufactured in a way that they can easily fit on the handle and be removed. In some cases, both the handle and the blade are disposed off after use. This is where extreme sterility is required. However, in standard cases, the blade is the part that is disposed of and the handle is retained for future use.
The materials used to create these scalpels are also of high concern. The handle for a disposable scalpel is mostly made of plastic. However, it can be made of stainless steel. As for the blades, the materials used to create them are many and varied. Normally, the blade can be made of stainless, tempered or carbon steel. In other cases, it can be made of titanium, diamond or ceramic. The site and purpose for which the surgical scalpels are going to be used determines the material which will be used to create it. A good example would be very sensitive surgery. For this type of surgery, the tool has to be extra sharp. As such, the blade in this case is made of diamond.
Due to the importance of having the perfect disposable scalpel for the job, even the handles are designed in a specific way to ensure maximum efficiency. The handle can have a flat or a round design. For cuts that involve round or curved movement, the rounded design is best. However, for other not so circular cuts, the flat handle is appropriate. The packaging of every scalpel has to be completely sterile to ensure hygiene.
