The Volkswagen Passat - Classy And Practical
The new Volkswagen Passat is certainly not one of most exciting cars in its class. Even the help of miniature Darth Vader in its advert didn't help its cause. However, it's very practical and competent in all areas and gets good reviews all around the car industry. The car is very spacious inside and outside with decent amount of boot space and comfy seats. They are firmly built as well. There is one drawback when you jump inside a Passat; it is the uncompromisingly functional interior which doesn't make it a good sight but it is very practical. There are many settings for the seat and the steering adjustment, therefore, no matter what is driver's built, he or she can get comfortable However, the front passenger seat lacks a bit of side support.
The control buttons are easy to use and the lay-out is intelligently designed. It has been fitted with electronic parking brake and starter motor. These two seem like extra gadgets which are not better use than the regular ones. These two might even put off some drivers. Even the basic models are generously equipped however; ...
... the recommended trim level is High line that returns the best value for money. The new Passat is built on the same chassis as the outgoing car as Volkswagen says works best. It has good ride and handles well. It doesn't however come near the class-leading Mondeo when it comes to handling, steering liveliness and ride. It gobbles up motorway miles with ease.
A wide range of Volkswagen Passat engine is available, with most of them being diesels. The base level petrol is a 120bhp turbocharged refined 1.4 litre engine. It is very efficient and has good level of CO2 emissions. Gone are the days when the Volkswagen's were very expensive, now the Passat is very competitive and the resale value is good too. The quality is on the same level as luxury brands but it beats them with ease when it comes to price. Equipment levels are generous too. The basic Passat engine is the 1.4 petrol and 1.6 diesel engine with Blue-Motion technology. They might be little slow for some drivers but that has it benefits too when it comes to economy. It's not a fun drive but the Passat still is a popular car.
The Passat should suit a many drivers as long as they are not looking for an exciting drive. It definitely is a high quality product, has strong resale value and has Volkswagen's classic image. This latest model is a refresh of the last generation than an all-new car. The changes have been made to make it more refined and economical. Thicker glass and more sound deadening materials have been used to give a quieter cabin. All the diesel models are now equipped with stop-star technology and use battery regeneration technology. All these engines now have a Blue-Motion tag. VW says it didn't want to transform the Passat but to improve its competitiveness against cars such as Peugeot 508, Skoda Superb and Ford Mondeo. It has a tough task ahead.
