Good quality home accessories that fit in with the style of your home, and reflect your personality, are essential. A home that is bereft of accessories will only look bare, cold and uninviting. However, a home with the right kinds of accessories will make the opposite impression. It will be warm and welcoming, as well as an interesting and stimulating environment for you and your family to live in.

Most people realise this, but are simply overwhelmed by the range of accessories available. They find having so much choice bewildering, so here are some tips to help you to narrow down your options and find the right accessories for your home.

Choose a Style

To get started choose a style of home decor that suits you. You can choose an era, or a style type. For example, if you like the way homes were decorated in the 1920s or 30s you could choose that era. If on the other hand the bold colours of the 60s are more your thing you could choose that era, instead. However, it is important that you choose an era that fits in with your current home decor and furnishing. Art Nouveau accessories will not look right in ...

However, there are some styles that transcend most decorating styles. An example of this is shabby chic. The accessories you find in this style fit in well with practically any type of home.

Not every shabby chic item will fit in with every style of home, but you can usually find something that works. Shabby Chic looks good in all kinds of homes, from farmhouses to Edwardian or Victorian villas. It is a style, which also works well for modern homes. Some pieces will even fit in with today's ultra chic, minimalist homes.

Choose a Colour Palette

You also need to bear in the colours you have used in your home. You want your home accessories to blend in with your home decor, not stand out like a sore thumb.

Just by following these two simple tips, you will narrow down your options. This will help to focus your search, which will mean that you find what you are looking for quickly and easily.

You will find plenty of stylish home accessories on the My Home Sweet Home website. They specialise in shabby chic, but within their range, there is something for everyone.
