People prefer independent sixth form colleges over other colleges for various reasons. There are also year round extra-curricular activities as well that help in personality development.

In the past few years, people have increasingly shown a preference to independent sixth form colleges over other colleges. Although there may be other colleges which are on a par in quality with the leading institutes in the world, independent colleges usually take the lead.

The smaller college community is a big reason for this. Private sixth form colleges may have less than 200 students, which is significantly less than a many other colleges that may have students running into the thousands. Private sixth form colleges usually spend a lot of time preparing students for exams. They have a system to monitor the progress of the students. Formal and informal meetings regularly between students and personal tutors ensure that any problem is quickly identified and solved. They also maintain a collaborative and communicative relationship with parents that is essential for the students’ progress. Moreover, formal exam preparation activities like note-taking, revision and mock examinations are also strongly focused on.

Students get all the support they need to succeed. Private A-level colleges are especially keen on maintaining their standards and providing the right environment to students for their studies. Students are able to improve their focus in class, which reflects in better performance.

Studying in a private sixth form college is not just about education. There is a complete programme of extra-curricular activities throughout the year, which helps students in their personal growth. Excursions are organised to enhance subject tuition, raise cultural and scientific awareness of students and improve their understanding of their city and country.

Location is often a factor for students when deciding on a sixth form college and it does help when it is close to the place you reside. However, it must not be the only factor when deciding on a college. You also have to factor in the reputation of the college, the subjects offered, infrastructure and academic support.

Collaboration is the basis of every successful learning experience. Tutors work closely with students to develop a cooperative relationship and bring out their potential. This approach breaks down the conventional teacher-student relationship that was often restrictive in effective learning. Students must feel positive and comfortable in their lessons. The objective is not just to assist them to get good marks, but also prepare them for later life.

Top private A-level colleges prepare statistics on student achievement, attendance and punctuality. The report is sent to parents every month to keep them involved, which is important so that parents and the college move together.
