Even hair experts may find it hard to explain certain hair loss conditions. There are at least 18 known causes of hair loss. It can occur as it is or as a reaction to certain internal issues. While you may already know some popular causes, there may still be some that you never thought can actually make your hair fall. Read on to know the five less known causes of hair loss.

Wearing Tight Hair Styles

Women are common victims of self-inflicted alopecia although men have their own share too. Anyone who engages in regularly sporting tight hairstyles are prone to losing his/her hair. Besides hairstyles, on the other hand, certain styling routines can also lead to the demise of our locks. Bleaching and dyeing are classic hair-killing routines as they both involve stripping the hair of its protective layer. Especially when done regularly, these habits can cause permanent hair damage and/or hair loss.

Heat Styling

Heat is the most harmful enemy of your hair as it strips the hair of its existing moisture. This is why washing with hot water, blow-drying, hair ironing, etc., are common causes of hair dryness. ...
... The same is true during sun exposure. The UV rays of the sun can suck out all the remaining juice in the hair fibers, weakening them in the process. These external factors can result in excessive hair fall, split ends and breakage.

Compulsive Behavior

Trichotillomania is unlike many mechanical cause of hair loss. It is an obsessive-compulsive disorder and children are common victims. Under certain impulses, a person is compelled to pluck or pull his or her own hair anywhere in the body. This would lead to spot baldness. Cases like these can only be cured through counselling.
Bacterial Or Fungal Infections

Bacterial or fungal infections like ringworm can obviously cause hair loss. It is also quite common in children than in adults.

Wet Hair Mistakes

When hair is wet, it is very weak thus vulnerable. For this reason, one should avoid brushing, rubbing, tying the hair when it is wet. Doing so can make the hair shafts brittle, break and develop split ends. Additionally, it is also not advisable to put product on and sleep with a wet head.

Hair loss caused by these factors, whether directly or indirectly, is often reversible if properly diagnosed and treated. However, prevention is always better than cure. It is best to refrain from doing anything potentially harmful to our hair.
