The number line is the line that points of number in correct place. Number line has both positive number and negative number held at correct points on line. In that zero is the center points of the number line, while right side of zero is positive number and left side of zero is negative number. In this article, we see about the points on a number line.

In number line we can points the number in decimal form, fraction form and also mixed form. Let us see one by one.

Points on a Number Line in Fraction Form and Mixed form:

Case 1: Let take the positive fraction as `13/4` and it mixed forrm of `13/4` is 3`1/4` .

Now points the fraction in the number line as follow.

Step 1: Fraction 13/4 = 3`1/4`

Step 2: Divide the 4 part in between 3 and 4, mark the points as per the numerator of the fraction in mixed form

Now we get the correct points where the fraction and mixed form of number `13/4` and 3 `1/4` on the number line.

Case 2: Points the Negative fraction `-7/2` and its mixed form ...
... is -3`1/2` on the number line.

Step 1: Given: `-7/2` = -3 `1/2`

Step 2: Divide the 2 part in between 3 and 4 in negative side on number line mark the points as per the numerator of the fraction in mixed form

Points on a Number Line in decimal form:

Case 1: Positive Decimal on number line

Let take the positive decimal as 3.75 and points it as in number line.

Generally, we know that decimal have two section of number in itself. That is before the decimal point and after the decimal point.

When make the decimal number on number line,

Step 1: keep the number before the decimal point. Here the 3 is the positive number before the decimal point.

Step 2: Now after the positive number three on a number line, we count the number in number line in between 3 and four as per the number have after the decimal point.

Step 3: Now we get the correct points for the given decimal as 3.75

Case 2: Negative decimal number on simple number line

Let take the number as -6.5 and mark it on the number line.

Step 2: Now after the negative number 6 on a number line, we count the negative number in number line in between 6 and 7 as per the number have after the decimal point.

Mark hash marks with equidistant increments. The reference points on number line to easy allocation of all values in the number set. For example {0.5, 1.6, 5, 7, 3.1, 5.4}
A grid square in a graph represents the change of 0.1, 1, 10, 100, 1000 etc..,
Mark the points of number on the number line with a numeric value. And make sure that all the points in the number line fit in the given values.
We can able to move, omit the value of zero if the values are given to be adjustable.
Mark the number in the number line to be as shaded circles.
Mark the numerical value in a circle it belongs to the given number set.

Constructing decimals on a Number Line

Decimal on a number line can be represented by dividing each segment of a number line into ten equal part

Example 1:

Draw a number line for 6.8?

Solution:

Let us draw a number line with ten equal parts between 6 to 7.


Example 2:

Draw decimals on a number line for a set { 0.26, 0.37, 0.58, 0.71, 0.8 }

Solution:

Let us draw a number line for agiven decimals with equal parts from 0.1 to 1.

{ 260/100, 370/1000, 580/1000, 71/1000, 800/1000 }

Example 3:

Draw decimals on a number line for a set { -0.6, -0.3, -1, -0.58, 0.71, 0.8, 0.1, 0.4,1}

Solution:

Let us draw a number line for agiven decimals with equal parts from -1 to 1.
