The world is on its way into a future where there is a requirement for minimum amount of non digital data. The concept of mass digitisation is driving our day to day activities in a whole new hemisphere. We look at every single task as being able to be automated to provide more efficient usage. Today we see the world more as a digital depiction of the real thing. Speaking of digitisation the greatest wealth of humans is without a doubt the immense Knowledge that the human kind possess. This was not conceived in a single day but over millions of years and has been recorded in various formats for reference as and when needed. The biggest form of storage of knowledge is in Books.

Books are the storehouse of information. Right from our kindergarten we have been taught things from Books. Books form an irreplaceable part of our society. They are means of archiving facts and figures, stories and history, scientific and other prospective theories and so on. The answer is simple. An eBook according to the definition laid out by the Oxford dictionary is nothing but an “electronic version of a printed book”. Today we can get over a million eBooks from the internet without any cost and there are sites from which you can get almost any book but you have to shell out some cash to get your hands on them. An eBook is basically a digital document consisting of either text or images or even a combination of both. It is created by either typing in using a computer or other digital input hardware and is usually read by computers and Smartphones or dedicated hardware components designed specifically for them.

The many examples of eBook readers available in the market today are Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader, Apple’s iPad and many more to name just a few. Today ebooks are preferred over actual physical printed books by many people around the world and publishers are rushing to convert all of their existing manuscripts into digital documents. This technique is preferred as ebooks have a wider choice of audience these days as compared to traditional printed books.

Basically conversion of books into eBooks involves a cumbersome task of quality control. The converted book has to adhere to strict norms with reference to style and presentation formats and also the integrity of the data it portrays should not be lost. As most eBooks are developed by converting physical books i.e. hard copy by the process of scanning, loss of clarity is a serious issue that needs to be tackled in order to achieve good quality and user readability.

eBook conversion softwares should be cost effective and should be able to maintain the necessary level of perfection and quality while translating from a hard copy to a digital one.
