5 Steps For Testing Car Battery
Electric battery plays an important role to power the car and even the engine is dependent on it. Creation of own power can be done by using alternator wherein generated electric power is stored in the car’s storage battery, just by putting it into the charge. Some precautionary measures need to be taken before you start up car battery testing procedure such as-
For gauging battery’s performance, you would require to test the offered voltage output.
Idea of battery health can be developed through the output voltage levels provided with or without loads.
Car testing procedure can be explained in a simplest step wise form such as–
Dealing with car batteries can be hazardous especially when sulphuric acid is the operating chemical present inside. It is mandatory to wear protective gloves, goggles and clothing so that you can remain protected against any unpredictable electrical hazards.
Before you go ahead with testing a car battery, you should use a voltmeter to arm yourself and then set the dials on 0-50 V range. Hereafter, you would need to follow the car manual instructions so that successful ...
... disconnection of battery from car can be executed. Meanwhile you should attach a 9V alkaline battery to the car PCM so that programmed settings might not get lost.
Now voltmeter needs to be connected with battery terminals. In order to do so, you would need to connect positive red lead of voltmeter to the positive terminal whereas black lead needs to get connected to the negative terminal. Voltage level should be checked, if it’s found in between 12.6 to 12.8, then your battery is doing well and is also charged adequately. If it falls below the range stated above then it means that battery is in need of charge and alternator also needs a check.
Start the car after reconnecting the battery. For some point of time, keep the battery in idle mode and then check if the voltage reading falls in between the above stated range. Anything around 10V would represent okay status of the battery and anything below that would represent some problem declining voltage level or battery is in need of charging.
Last step would be to check the fluid level of your car batteries uk. This could be done once you disconnect the battery again from the car and open u the battery cover so that you can peep into the cell’s compartment designed inside. You would find that electrode plate is submerged in the electrolyte fluid. If it is not so then you would need to add distilled water so that the fluid level rises about one-fourth of an inch over and above the electrode plates.
Thus you can easily develop an idea regarding battery testing of your car. There are many car battery suppliers available in the market that you can approach in case you need to replace your battery.
