Introduction
Sports trophies are one of the most important things of the sports culture. They mark great achievements giving due credit to the ability, skills and hard work put in by the player/ participant to win. Players enjoy receiving sports trophies not just because of their monetary value but because they represent success. We all know the importance of recognition and appreciation and the kind of motivation one receives with the acknowledgement of merit.

The word trophy is derived from the Greek word “tropaion”. It signified a monument that was set up to celebrate victory over one’s foes and with the passage of time; it was dedicated to Gods during Thanksgiving ceremony. As time went by, instead of monuments, trophies were given in the form of floral wreaths to the winners of ancient Greek games. Later on, winners were rewarded with tripod vases, bronze shields and silver cups as trophies.

They are still regarded as the highest form of honour that a player can ever receive in his life. Players who win trophies cherish the pride and legacy that go hand in hand with the reward.

Football is the favourite sport of sports lovers all across the world and the most famous trophy of all football trophies is probably the Heisman Trophy. It is considered the most prestigious and coveted trophy. While all football trophies are not as popular and celebrated as the Heisman Trophy is, the players of this famous sport deserve a lot of credit. Beautiful plaques and trophies are given to the winning team to acknowledge the determination and zeal required to emerge victorious in this rough sport.
Other famous sports trophies are Baseball trophies, Golf trophies, Boxing trophies, Chess trophies, Basketball trophies etc. These trophies are typically made from gold, silver, resin, acrylic, bronze, crystal, wood etc.
Sports trophies are often designed with elements exclusive to that sporting event. For instance, a chess trophy may feature chess pieces while a boxing trophy may feature a boxer or boxing gloves. These trophies are always appreciated by the players since they make wonderful display pieces and clearly indicate the sports event.
