Summer and winter, like fire and ice, are two seasons that contradict each other. Each has a unique climate that differentiates one to the other.

The first major difference between winter and summer is the weather. Summer season is always warm and sunny, which makes it a perfect time to have some fun and be outside. On the other hand, winter is always cold and chilly, which makes it very difficult to play outdoor games—except sledding, skiing and snowboarding.

Though summer and winter are of the opposite poles, both environmental conditions induce dry, frizzy, dull, and lifeless hair strands. To understand how the changing weather condition during the winter and summer seasons affect the health of the hair, read on.

Summer Hair Care Tips

During summer, environmental factors like humidity, heat and ultra violet (UV) rays from the sun can damage the hair strands; causing it to become dry, frizzy and brittle.

Wetting the hair and applying leave-in conditioner or other essential oils like argan and coconut, before heading into the pool or the beach, can help protect the hair from overexposure to moisture in the form of chlorinated or salt water.

During winter, the contrast between the surroundings at home and in your office buildings, can make the hair dry, brittle and frizzy.

In addition, the cold air and chilly wind can also induce damage to the hair strands by sucking away moisture. Dehydration is, in fact, one of the biggest problems that we face during the winter season.

With that, in order to keep the hair strands moisturized, you need to make use of a good daily moisturizing conditioner to prevent the hair from becoming too dry, dull and frizzy. Your hair can also benefit from having a deep conditioning treatment since it keeps the moisture locked in, minimizing the onset of hair damage.

You also need to avoid using blow-dryers; instead, try air-drying the hair with a soft clean towel. Moreover, never leave the house with wet hair since it could be exposed to the cold and chilly wind, which may induce dry and brittle mane. If possible, always make use of headgear like hats, scarves, and beanies to protect the hair against the moisture in the environment.
