Popular cities and budget traveling may not go together, unless you know how to be a smart and savvy traveler. Lots of tourists are clueless about saving money during their vacation, so they end up spending horribly more than they are supposed to shell out. Taking a vacation in a popular, beautiful city should not be a bankrupting experience for you. Take Paris, for example. Almost everyone who wants to go to Europe dreams of going to Paris. Here are the survival skills you need to be able to have a cheap vacation in Paris or any other expensive city.

Cheap Airfare

The price of a regular plane ticket to Paris is something that not all travelers can afford. The best recourse here is to scout around during lean season for cheap Paris airfares. If you can't afford to fly to Paris during summer, which is the most popular season for tourists, choose to book during off seasons then. Booking for a flight in summer means paying as much as 60% more compared to airfares during spring, winter, and fall. Experienced travelers claim that flights for Tuesdays and Thursdays are relatively cheaper. Likewise, don't book ...
... for the first affordable rate that you see. Shop around first because you may find something cheaper.

Cheap Accommodations

Taking a vacation in Paris doesn't mean staying in five-star hotels. A smart traveler can do away with the fancy rooms and fancy pools and make do with basic accommodations, such as cheap hotels that are clean and safe. You can book in a cheap hotel paris and still have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. There are last minute hotels that you can find if you will just take some time to scout or research online. Such hotels may offer you great deals on accommodation. There are also hostels located right in the heart of Paris that allow you easy access to the Eiffel Tower and other must-see attractions in the city. If you don't mind sharing a room with other guests and you would love to meet new people, staying in hostels may be your best option.

If you plan to stay for a month or more, you can opt to rent a modest apartment instead. This is also a great option for group travelers. There are affordable furnished apartments that can give you the space and comfort that you want. This way, you can live in Paris like a local.

Cheap Meals

If you don't have hundreds of Euros to spend on fancy restaurants and cafes near the Eiffel Tower, then you are better off scouting for excellent restaurants that offer full meals at almost half the price of luxury restaurants. There are excellent books and online guides about the best affordable restaurants in Paris. Find out where you can get three-course meals for only 30 Euros, including wine, tip, and tax. For Paris standards, that's already cheap.

Cheap Attractions

What's a visit in Paris without checking out the Louvre and other great museums in the city? If you are a culture and history buff, you should buy a museum pass that allows you to get into museums and galleries at affordable prices. There are museums that offer free entrance to visitors during the first Sunday of the month. You can easily avail of the museum pass online at the Paris Tourism Office website.
