Installing Glue Down Cork Tiles And Stair Installation Pro Tips And Materials

There are a number of items needed when installing glue down cork tiles. Materials and tools include chalk line, safety goggles, carpenter's square, broom pencil, a 4 foot or 6 foot level, tape measure, a soft rubber mallet, utility knife or utility shears, a saw for parquet patterns or straight edges, a 75-100 pound roller, a paint roller with medium knap for adhesive, a high quality paint roller, short knap for polyurethane, Wakol D3540 cork adhesive and Loba WS 2K Supra cork and wood floor finish. Roll-on contact cement must be used, it is very important that a trowel is not used. It is also important to note that DAP “non-flammable” contact cement should never be used with Forna products. Remember that glue down cork tiles cannot be installed over old flooring and all old flooring must be removed and fully cleared.
Before installing glue down cork tiles all tiles should be acclimatized to the space they will be installed. All tiles should be taken out of their respective packages and places around the room. It is recommended that tiles be pulled from at least three varying packages or cartons. This is to allow ...
... an even distribution of colors.
The sub-floor material must be level before installation begins. The cement surface used to install cork flooring must be above grade. Cork adhesive is quite sensitive to alkali and ground salts that can be present in cement pads. It is important the surface is sound and completely clean of any debris and salts because any salts surfacing through the cement pad may cause the flooring to peel. A calcium chloride moisture test can be administered to measure moisture content in the cement. Moisture content should be below three pounds per one thousand foot area over the time frame of twenty four hours.
In order to perform stair installation of cork floating flooring one will need to acquire some tools. Materials required include but are not limited to a tape measure, pencil, a circular, table or hack saw, a drill with a finishing bit and can be hand held or electrical, some type of polyurethane commercial glue, enough floating flooring to complete the installation, stair nosing and finishing nails or screws that are one size larger than the drill bit being used.
It is important to check with any local building codes to be sure the project conforms to any building and safety regulations in the area. There is nothing worse than completing an entire project only to learn it must all be redone due to some code you were unaware of. All floating flooring must be anchored to the stair tread and it is not allowed to move. Using industrial or construction adhesive this can easily be achieved. Before beginning stair installation cork floating flooring inspect all stair treads. All treads must be completely sound with no imperfections such as holes, gaps or cracking. The stair treads must also be flat and never on a slant. Paint and old adhesive cannot be on the stair tread and will inhibit full adhesion. Flooring up to the bottom of the staircase must be finished while still maintaining the expansion gap to the base of the first bottom stair.
