Appealing Solo Traveler Destinations

Sometimes potential solo travelers pass on cheap travel deals, including cheap airplane tickets, discount hotel rooms, and cheap vacation packages, because of safety concerns, language barriers, and/or having to dine out alone.
There is however a totally different slant that can be taken regarding solo travel. The benefits include being on your own schedule, eating what you want where you want and feeling totally independent. Solo travelers can temporarily escape from the demands of everyday life and go exactly and only where they want.
To enjoy traveling on your own it is important to plan ahead and choose a safe place that offers fun activities which will keep you busy. A little research can help you identify great restaurants before you depart and places with friendly locals where there is a communal vibe.
Remember the hotel concierge, friendly bartender, and locals standing in line for something that looks and smells delicious are all great impromptu tour guides.
Unquestionably some destinations are better for solo travelers than others, depending on language barriers, built in activities ...
... and food so delicious that you won’t care that you are sitting on your own.
You don’t have to travel great distances to visit ideal solo destinations. Austin and Portland are dynamic fun cities to spend a few days alone. However, you should also consider international destinations from Belize to Dublin for safe, mouthwatering, friendly and relaxing getaways.
The following are eight very attractive solo destinations:
• Venice, Italy is a great place to stroll on your own along its many canals. You can visit locally owned boutiques, enjoy espressos on canal side terraces, and partake in long, perfectly prepared dinners.
• Norway is known for its fantastic food scene, fascinating culture and stunning landscape. Safety is not a concern as reflected by its ninth place ranking on the Global Peace Index.
• Portland, OR, has a laid back cool vibe, lush greenery, and many options for spending an entire day outdoors. Its food cart scene compares favorably with cities twice its size. Portland is a relaxing mecca of hip design and mouthwatering food.
• Austin, TX, has earned a great reputation for its food, music and art scenes. Solo visitors can sample the iconic barbecue at the Salt Lick, grab coffee from Jo’s coffee shop at the Hotel San Jose, or stop for a drink at La Condesa and join the conversations with locals sitting close by.
• Fiji is an island of spectacular beauty that offers affordable lodging, warm and welcoming locals, and ample tasty tropical food to sample. Visitors are encouraged to island hop to try spicy island style Indian food, fresh grilled seafood, and Fiji style barbecue.
