Window treatments and home accessories are an important addition to a room and blinds are one option that can be used instead of curtains. They are trendier and tend to look more elegant and sophisticated than traditional curtains. They can be used very effectively in regulating the flow of sunlight into a room. Opening up the slats permits more light to filter into the room and you have the option to close them when you feel you need less light in the room. The angle of the blinds can be adjusted and the direction can be flipped from left to right. This is one of the features that make it a preferred option over cumbersome drapes and curtains.

A variety of blinds
There is a large variety of blinds that you can choose from. The one you choose will be dependant on your personal taste and the function that you want it to serve. They all offer light control and privacy in addition to adding a touch of glamour to the room.

• Roller - these can be very elegant, are easy to maintain and durable. They are available in a variety if styles such as black-out, sheer and dim-out. They can be made of fabric, suede ...
... or voile and could be either textured or smooth. Rollers are very functional and stylish and can be fitted to the top of the window with a spring roller very easily. The blackout variety is an ideal option for bedrooms where you might want to darken the room in the daytime.
• Roman - These are unique and have a very simple look. They are somewhat like rollers but with roll up or down in soft folds. They add a very sophisticated look to the room. You can use lighter fabric with lining or textured and thick fabric as well. However, it is best to use material that has a certain amount of “fall” in it.
• Venetian- This variety is very sleek, stylish and practical. These are one of the very first styles of blinds that were made with slim metal strips and used to cover office windows. Today, they have become much more versatile. They still serve purposes such as light control and privacy and are made with stiff materials.
• Wood Venetian- for the modern and uncluttered look, opt for wooden Venetian blinds. They can be polished in natural shades or painted to match the décor and the rest of the home accessories in the room. These also roll horizontally down a window and operate on a pulley system.

In addition to these varieties, pleated fabric blinds are also very stylish. Honeycomb blinds have a double construction and are excellent for single or double glazed draughty windows. They have a cord lock system that lends a very neat look to the entire window. All these blinds can be either vacuumed or dusted and tend to last longer than curtains. Make use of this durability factor and add beauty to your home with blinds of different styles.
