Peru is one of the renowned tourist destinations in the world. A number of tourists all round the world come to this vibrant country to spend some quality time with their friends and family. Peru is famous for its various tourist attractions, festivals, and adventurous sports. This article will tell you about why you should select Peru as your vacation destination.

It is not every day that people consider traveling to Peru as a worthwhile vacation option. However, this country has rich history, architecture marvels, and natural surroundings to draw tourists. Peru was civilized several years before Columbus discovered America. Incas were the rulers out here, and they have left several large monuments to announce to world that they knew how to build temples and buildings.

However, the Norte Chico civilization existed here much before Incas. There are some pyramids belonging to Norte Chico civilization that are worth a visit because this civilization is one of the earliest civilizations in the world dating as far back as 9210 BC. Not much remains of that era to be seen for those who are curious about early humans. ...
... Some evidences of irrigation works and pyramids built by Norte Chico civilization around 3200 BC are available even today.

Though they are not as majestic as Egyptian pyramids, these Norte Chico pyramids continue to keep people in awe about a civilization that had little or no implements to build what they built. These pyramids are located close Peru's capital Lima. Other archeological marvels in or near Lima are Huallamarca, Pucllana, Garagay Altorrelieve, and Pachacamac.

On the North coast of Peru is the Fortress of Acaray that dates back to 900 BC. A Mayo aqueduct built around 1500 BC is still in working condition. It is located close to Cajamarca and is known as Cumbe Mayo. Chanchan is another archeological site in Peru that draws tourists. Here mud walls with designs stand out amidst the harsh dry terrain. There are some ancient fishing nets as well. The Chanchan site is believed to be from civilization that existed around here between 850 and 1470 AD.

However, it is the buildings left for posterity by Incas that bring many tourists to Peru. Cusco has several such architectural structures to ponder about including the Coricancha, and Choquequirao. People arriving here for trekking take the Inca trail or the Quriwayrachina that starts at Cusco, and ends at Machu Picchu. It is a breathtakingly beautiful fortress. The Urubamba River looks picturesque near the railroad here. Kuelap at Amazonas is another place worth visiting.

Peru also has beaches. Mancura is one of the best beaches in this country. Huanchaco, a village near Trujillo offers surfing facilities. Other places worth visiting in this country are Laguna Paron, Puno, Lake Tititicaca, Uros, Amantani, and Taquile. The famous floating islands at Uros are made by humans. Manu would be the best place to visit for rainforests. Gocta near Chachapoyas is a large waterfall.

People in Peru seem to be frequently in festive mood because there are almost 3,000 such occasions celebrated each year. Most of these are related to harvests, carnivals, and spring celebrations. The spring here begins in September, because the country is in Southern Hemisphere. Traveling to Peru when such celebrations are on will give tourist a better glimpse of local culture. People wear the vibrant colored costumes that include a mud red face mask, a well decorated crown, a white shirt that covers their palms and some bright colored attachments hanging from their waists. In addition to this, a dark brown colored loose vest with handmade embroidery on it also forms part of this gear. Peruvians perform lively dances wearing such costumes. The cuisine in Peru is gastronomical delight. It has distinct flavor and aroma, which is got by adding local herbs and spices.
