Link exchanges are a no brainer way to get a lot of backlinks, the backlinks might be less quality - but you can get a lot of backlinks with this method!

Web, Blog & Rss directories are an easy way to get lots of backlinks if you use software to submit. Not the highest quality backlinks, but once again you can get a lot of backlinks.

What I use as ongoing methods to get backlinks are those top 3 link building methods, because there's never a shortage supply of them, you can easily find article directories, forums as well as websites doing link exchanges.

1) Here's how I do Article Submission:

Personally I use a service called Distribute Your Articles (previously known as Article Marketer).

It works! They will submit your article to around a thousand article directories. I just submit my article in members area, and have all statistics I need to know where it's been submitted, etc. It can't get easier than that.

If you don't want to spend a dime do article submission yourself, manually. If you do it manually write an article and submit it to an article directory, then write another one (or use the same article) but submit it to a different article directory, and keep doing that always submitting to a different article directory.

2) How I do Forum Posting:

I don't do this, I delegate it entirely. It's true I used to do this myself, in the beginning when I was well almost broke... When done right, forum posting can greatly increase the number of high quality backlinks.

I've hired someone from a freelancing site - he follows my step by step instructions, it's fantastic. But one important thing: You really have to find the right person, that one who understand exactly what to do, and does the job accurately... someone who doesn't like to do forum posting will NOT do it right...

They don't need seo experience or knowledge, but many freelancers I've tried didn't do it right - they rush in their work they just want to earn some money quickly.

So always find someone who likes to do this type of work. Make sure he likes doing it!

3) How I do Link Exchanges:

I've used to do this manually as well, finding websites using Google, then finding out if they have link exchange submission form, and fill them in one by one - chained to my pc for hours.
