Crossover cars and hybrid cars are two of the most commonly bought cars in the market today. There is not really much difference between the two car models, except for the distinction that defines them. Hybrid cars are best known for their economical fuel consumption; crossover cars are known for their build. Whether a car is a crossover or a hybrid is not really the case, since these attributes are not mutually exclusive; there are cars that are classified as both hybrid and crossover, such as the Ford Escape Hybrid.

Hybrid Cars

Simply put, a hybrid car uses two different power sources. Rechargeable electric source supplements the engine's diesel or gasoline power, making it more fuel-efficient to drive. Those who want to save on gas should consider getting a hybrid car. Hybrid technology is not just confined to small cars; it can also be used on big trucks. Hybrid vehicles consume less fuel than crossover cars as well.

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past decade, you have probably heard of the Toyota Prius and how it sold like pancakes in several countries. It is not because of the style; ...
... the Prius looks like any other mid-class sedan. The Prius became a hit because it is the first mass-produced vehicle in the hybrid class. Most buyers of this Performance car came from Japan and the United States. Environment-conscious drivers can be seen cruising around with a Prius, driving longer miles with less fuel consumption.

Other popular hybrid cars are the Honda Civic Hybrid, a hybrid version of their all-time classic sedan, equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, and the Ford Escape Hybrid, which happens to be a crossover and considered as the most fuel efficient SUV in the market.

Crossover Cars

In order to understand the distinction of crossover vehicles, you should compare it to the traditional SUVs. Crossover vehicles look like the usual SUVs but the difference lies in the build. The body of a traditional SUV is built separately from the underbody structure. The body is secured to the latter and designed to have bigger cabins, which is good. The bad part is that traditional SUVs are gas-guzzlers, with fuel consumption similar to trucks. This is why crossover cars became popular. They look like the usual SUVs, but with better fuel consumption. A crossover has a unibody, which doesn't need the support of a chassis or internal frame. The handling is easier, similar to a common car. Crossovers are designed to have more efficiency (compared to trucks) and are safer for road use (compared to an SUV). It is a step-up from a sedan, great for families who love to take road trips. They also have features that can be found on SUVs and some Luxury cars, such as moderate towing capacity and third-row seating.

The most popular crossover Performance cars are the Mazda CX-5 (a cross between a hatchback and an SUV) and the Infiniti JX35, which is equipped with a seven-passenger cabin and Backup Collision Intervention System. Another good example is the Volvo XC60, a crossover vehicle that seats five passengers and has a 240-hp inline 6-cylinder engine and low-speed crash prevention system.
