India is a land of both beaches and deserts. While the southern regions of the country play host to some of the nation’s most beautiful and tranquil coasts in the State of Kerala, the north plays host to the mighty Thar Desert that stretches across and beyond Rajasthan. Certainly, both locales are highly popular tourist destinations, attracting curious travellers like a magnet does pins. Here are few reasons why Rajasthan tours and Kerala tours are as popular as they are, and why the serious traveller and casual vacationer alike should experience them.

Rajasthan:
The Thar Desert isn’t the only big tourist attraction in Rajasthan. The State is also known for its rich cultural heritage and folklore, not to mention Rajasthani cuisine that is well known throughout India, mostly in the form of the quintessential Rajasthani thali. The food is rustic and mostly vegetarian as the common populace is usually unable to afford meat, but delectable meat dishes like laal maas are consumed by the upper class. Historical monuments are aplenty, such as the Alwar Palace, the Jal Mahal, the Jantar Mantar and the Hawa Mahal. ...
... For those interested not in the culture but the natural beauty of the place, Rajasthan offers the Ranthambore and Bharatpur sanctuaries. The former is one of India’s most successful tiger reserves, whereas the latter happens to be one of the very few places to see the elusive Saras cranes.

Kerala:
Kerala is hugely popular among both international and local tourists for its pristine white beaches, beautifully aged churches, fish curries and spicy beef chilly. Rice forms an integral part of Keralan cusine, manifesting itself in many preparations as idlis, dosas and appams. Meals are traditionally served on a banana leaf with banana chips, rasam and payasam as accompaniments. Not to mention the famous backwaters, punctuated with the odd houseboat. Kerala has recently garnered much preference among international surfing enthusiasts for its windy climate and foot high waves, with a dedicated surf resort meant specifically for those interested in picking up the sport. Equally steeped in culture as adventure, Kerala is home to a staggering five forms of classical dance, namely Kathakali, Koodiyattom, Mohiniyattam, Krishnanattam and Thullal.

Unless one is insistent on luxury, Rajasthan tours and Kerala tours are both very economical, enabling one to spend an extended amount of time there without any financial concerns. All the more reason to pack your bags and take off, no?
