Understanding The Java Technology
Java is an object oriented language. It has been considered as the best application development programming and scripting language because of its amazing quality of creating best applications in a very small period of time. It is an open source and platform independent language with better security and accessibility of APIs. It is based on the Stack allocation system which provides a better object management by the help of LIFO (Last in First Out) object allocation.
The two most important components which exhibit into the Java platforms to develop applications for this platform are JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and JDK (Java Development Kit). JRE is actually used to provide the platform or operating system to develop the applications and to run those developed applications. It is installed in the computer and provides an environment which helps in running the application. JDK is basically a collection of various tools which are required by the developers to develop applications for this platform. Now, JRE is coming inside the JDK which means all that the developers need to do is to download the JDK and they will be able ...
... to develop as well as run the developed programs.
There are four editions of Java technology. These editions contain different APIs which help in developing different type of applications for different devices, platforms and engines. Those editions are discussed below:
1) Java Card: This is a special edition of Java language which is basically used for allowing Java based applications to run on small memory foot print devices like Smart Cards, ATM Cards etc.
It is the smallest platform which is basically focused on the small embedded devices. It is used to provide a special ability to the user for programming these small memory footprint devices and make them application specific.
2) Java Micro Edition (JME): It was formerly known as J2ME (i.e. Java 2 Platform Micro Edition). It is specially designed for designing applications for the embedded systems, means the devices having display, power and limited storage capacity like mobile phones, set top boxes, printers etc.
3) Java Standard Edition (JSE): It is used for developing and deploying portable applications for desktop, some server environments and similar devices. It is basically designed for general purpose use. It was formerly known as J2SE (i.e. Java 2 Platform Standard Edition).
4) Java Enterprise Edition: As same as the other Java Technology Editions, it was also formerly known as J2EE, which stands for Java 2 Platform Enterprise edition. It has been designed for developing complex applications which suits for medium and large business. The applications developed by this edition are typically server based applications which target the requirements of large number of users at a same time.
All these above detail about the Java technology and its editions are brought to you by the professional Java developers to make you understand it easily.
