Differences Between Java Card, Java Me, Java Ee And Java Se
Java has been quite popular since 1995. This general purpose, object-oriented, class-based, concurrent programming language powers state-of-the-art utility, business computing and gaming applications. The best use of this technology can be seen in the applications dedicated to online gaming, the web, e-business, chat, calculation of mortgage interest, etc. When it comes to viewing images in 3D, the preferred technology is still Java. It exists in the foundation of most of the corporate establishments. According to an estimate of Oracle Corporation, Java today runs in more than 1.1 billion desktops, 3 billion mobile phones and 100% Blu-ray players. It also powers set-top boxes, printers, car navigation systems, ATM machines, lottery machines, parking payment stations, medical devices, and more.
Java Card, Java ME, Java EE and Java SE are the four types of Java technologies. Java Card is used in developing small applications, which can securely run on smart cards and other similar devices. It can be used in deploying multiple applications on a single card. Electronic ticketing, air miles and cash replacement are some examples ...
... of services, which can permanently be installed in cards by using this technology. The best thing about this technology is that new applications can be added to a card even after it has been issued to the end-user. Services, which can later be added to cards based on this technology, include hotel coupons and car vouchers.
The specific features of Java Card include persistence, atomicity and applet isolation.
Another popular technology available is Java ME. It stands for Java Platform, Micros Edition. It is majorly used in industrial controls, mobile phones (feature phones), set-top boxes, Blu-ray Disc players, digital media devices, M2M modules, etc. It provides these devices a robust environment for running applications. It is the most preferred technology for constraint devices, which use extremely limited memory, slow processor, small screen and alternative input methods.
Third technology in the bundle of Java Platform is Java SE. It is a general-purpose technology for desktop PCs, servers and similar devices. It is widely used for development and deployment of portable applications aimed at desktop and server environments. It also allows Java developers to design, develop and deploy applications for embedded environments.
Java EE or Java Platform, Enterprise Edition is also a Java technology. It provides an API and runtime environment for enterprise level network software, and web services. It lets Java developers implement large scale, multi-tiered, scalable, safe and reliable network applications. It uses containers to simplify the development process. Developers can use these containers to quickly design and timely deploy applications as per the market need.
