Sarees have come a long way since the Indus valley civilization, when they were merely a fabric material wrapped around the body. Today, sarees are available in unimaginable designs with brilliant patterns, a wide array of shades and magnificent designs. Looking at the number of people living in India, there are bound to be millions of choices. That’s why you will find so many styles of sarees being made all across India. While some are Banarasi sarees loyalists, there are some who swear only by Kanjivaram. Apart from the style of saree making, the style of wearing saree also differs every 100-200 kilometers. You will notice the difference in styles clearly if you are living in a cosmopolitan city!

Today, if someone talks about Fashion in India, sarees and Anarkali Salwar Kameez is the first thing that will find a mention. The broad variety that they are available in always gives people enough to discuss about. There are styles to be discussed, embroideries to be spoken about and different shades to be shown to everyone. And if at all you find yourself out of place while such a discussion is on, here are some parameters ...
... on which the quality of this traditional Indian dresses known as saree is adjudged:

• Material: Sarees come in a wide variety of material such as georgette, silk, nylon, cotton, poly-cotton etc. The material of manufacturing depends largely upon the temperature conditions in the region. Colder regions make silk sarees since silk is ideal for cold conditions. Where the climate remains sunny, light cotton sarees are preferred.

• Dressing style: Style includes the way a saree is worn. If you have ever prepared a kid for a fancy dress competition, you will know this the best. But even if you haven’t dressed a kid, the sheer fact that you live in India is enough to know that in India fashion differs every few hundreds of kilometers. A Bengali has a distinct way of wearing a saree, and is a lot different from the way a Punjabi wears it. Similarly, a Maharashtrian dressing sense is way different from a Rajasthani one.

Patterns and design: Kanjivaram sarees are embellished with gold and silk threads and usually have bright colored designs. Banarasi sarees and Chiffon Sarees have patterns that are influenced from flowers and temples! What we mean to say is that there’s no limit to patterns and designs. There are innumerable designs available all over the country.

This is the most amazing aspect that Indian Clothes can have so many textures, designs, work and colors that one can never run out of choices. If you want to check out sarees, there are a lot of websites that offer a marvelous display of a wide array of sarees.
