Ways To Increase The Longevity Of Your Car
With the rising fuel prices and cost of repairs, the last thing you would want is your car to break down. If you are looking for ways to protect your car and make it last longer, here are some tips for you:
- Be careful when buying the car. Many cars land up in the junkyard because it becomes hard to find their parts. If you want to avoid this, talk to your mechanic and ask him to suggest a brand that has a reputation of supplying the parts of the older vehicle. Buy brands that have a reputation of longevity.
- Minimize your use of car. Sometimes you use your car when you could easily do with walking, biking, carpooling or using the public transport. These are not only better for your wallet, but also for your health, the environment and, of course, your car. The less you drive, the longer your car will last.
- Drive gently. Now what does 'drive gently' mean? It means accelerating and applying brakes gently. When turning your steering wheel, do not hold hold it to the extreme right or left for more than a few seconds as doing that can damage the power steering pump. If it's freezing cold outside, allow ...
... your car some time to warm up before you take it for a hard ride. If your car is new, follow your owner's manual to get break- in recommendations.
- Avoid short trips, as short trips of 10 minutes or less go very hard on the car, resulting in excessive wear and tear. Plus, during a short trip, you car's engine doesn't get a scope to reach it's full operating temperature, and this is bad for your vehicle.
- Avoid hauling extra weights in your car. It places extra demands on the engine, and creates exhaust, braking and even suspension problems. It also causes premature wears and stresses the critical systems. So check your car right now. Toss out those 4 bowling balls, the fuel rods or the barbells.
- Take your car to the mechanic for conducting regular maintenance check up. Skipping your regular maintenance schedule is one of the quickest way to make your car land up in an early grave. Regularly change the oil, fuel, oil and air filters.
- Buy gas only from reputable gas stations. Don't fill the gas if you see a gasoline tanker filling up the tanks when you go to fill. When the station's underground tanker is being filled, the turbulence can stir up the sediments at the bottom. The sediments, if you fill the gas, can cause clogs in the fuel injectors and filters. This is likely to cause poor performance and may need costly repairs.
- Whenever any problem surfaces in your car, go to a vehicle repair and maintenance center as soon as you can. Delaying repairs can only aggravate the situation and lead to more costly repairs in the future. Go to a trustworthy mechanic and repair center. Visit www.envuautomatic.com.au to know more.
