Anyone with impaired vision, whether it is on account of nearsightedness or farsightedness, does need prescription glasses to correct the error. What the glasses basically do is to correct the focal length of the eye lens by imposing another lens between the eye and the object. Perhaps the biggest advantage of pinhole glasses is that you do not have to keep constantly changing your glasses whenever there is a change in power of the eye and you do not require different sets of glasses for near vision and far vision. Thus the need for bifocal or even trifocal glasses too is eliminated as the same pinholes serve the purpose whether you are viewing a far off object or reading a book. In addition, you do not have to worry about scratches to the lens. Even if they do get scratches, it will in no way impair your vision, as long as the aperture of the pin holes does not get distorted. The only care you have to take is perhaps not to let the pin holes get blocked by dust and grime.
