There are many protein supplements on the market today. There are so many different types of protein in fact that it can be hard to determine which is the best kind for your needs. Among all the different types of protein, you'll often find two main types. There's regular whey and then there's designer whey protein supplements. Are designer whey protein supplements worth your money or are they just more hype? First, you'll need to know the difference between whey and designer whey. First of all, regular whey is made from regular food products found in nature. The protein is turned into a great tasting powder so that you can mix it with water or milk and then you can drink your protein whenever you need to. Designer whey protein supplements are made from the same types of products, but there are various amino acids added to them. They are more like actual muscle tissue so that the whey protein supplement goes directly to the muscle itself. So, yes, most of the time a designer whey protein supplement is worth the money. That's the good news.

The Cost

The bad news is that designer whey protein supplements often cost ...
... more than their regular whey counterparts. That's because of all the work that went into 'designing' them. However, if you're looking for a great supplement then you won't mind spending a little extra money. You just have to consider what's important to you.

Does It Matter

Can you still get great results from a regular whey protein supplement? Of course you can. As long as you work out enough to warrant taking a protein supplement, then really any whey protein supplement will do as long as it doesn't have any sugar or extra ingredients in there. However, if you're going to go with just a regular whey protein supplement, you may want to take extra supplements such as L-Glutamine which helps to preserve lean muscle mass, as well as a multi-vitamin to make sure you're giving your body what it needs. The great thing about designer whey protein supplement is that you don't need to take any additional supplements because it's all in the protein supplement you're taking.

Many people get great results from both regular and designer whey protein supplements. However, designer whey seems to give you more for your money so the choice is yours as far as which one you prefer. It would be recommended to try both to see which one you like.
