Tents are a fundamental tool for camping and hiking. They're used across the world for recreation and for survival, and there's no more iconic symbol of man's experience with nature. Originally, tents served as homes, and used in a variety of environments for keeping dry and safe. With the rise of agriculture, permanent fixtures gained popularity, but tents were still common with moving armies and nomadic peoples.

The design of the modern tent is still quite similar to what the original tent probably looked like: a piece of fabric draped over some poles. However, tent materials and features have changed dramatically over the last several decades, with new features and materials greatly improving its basic functions. However, we do have archaeological evidence of some early examples of sophisticated tents. Scientists recently found tent ruins in Russia from about 40,000 B.C., easily the oldest tent ever verified by carbon dating.

We also have descriptions of tents from historical texts, including fairly specific descriptions in the Bible. isaiah 54:2 indicates how important the tent was in early societies:

Over ...
... the last few decades, tent designers made a number of adjustments to the basic style of the survival tent. New designs included:

Types of Tents:

Modern Beach Tents

Available in a variety of colours, beach tents do not necessarily have to be owned and carried by the tourists to the vacation spots. Although most of these tents are extremely lightweight and transportable, they maybe hired on location.

Not much different from ordinary camping tents, beach tents are for revealers who prefer spending quality time on gorgeous beaches, watching turbulent sea waves dashing against it.

Party Tents

One of the first things you need to do when organizing an event to be held outdoors is get a party tent in which guests can congregate should the weather turn bad. As you will soon discover there are plenty of different kinds of party tents that you can choose from and companies that will hire them to you.

When it comes to party tents the first thing you need to make a decision on is what type it is you want. There are two types of tents that you can choose from. You can either go for something a little traditional that is constructed from canvas and has poles and guy ropes to help keep the tent up and in position.

Whilst the other choice and which are generally the most easy to erect are those which are made using an aluminium frame. These as well as being easy to erect do not require any kind of poles in the centre or guy ropes to keep them in place and can be placed on any kind of surface and close to other structures. Plus unlike the traditional style of party tents the aluminium framed modern resort tents are more stable and are able to cover a much larger area.

Modern Recreational Tents

Tent materials changed drastically in the 20th century. Rigid support poles weren't made from wood any more. Flexible support poles eventually gained favour with campers and guy ropes became less common. Some newer tents can be set up in a matter of seconds, and with the introduction of materials like nylon, tents became more resistant to the elements. Manufacturers introduced poles made of fibreglass or aluminium alloys, allowing for a greater range of shapes and a lighter weight tent to transport. Zippered tent doors replaced the traditional flap opening.

Nowadays, with the rapid progress of science, contemporary camping tents designers are using modern materials to create outlandish tents that solve problems our forefathers could never have envisioned. Here I list a few futuristic tents may meet us soon, such as solar concept tent, adventure tent, Bedu emergency rapid response and out-well Indian lake. Tents have improved thanks to new technologies, but they're not Bluetooth equipped or Wi-Fi capable and that's a good thing. Regardless of how they're constructed or what they're made from, they serve a fundamentally basic need and desire-they allow us to share the same feelings that our ancestors must have felt when they drove in the stakes of the first tent countless ages ago.
