The Several Methods And Processes Of Plastic Moulding
The innumerable uses of plastic has reinforced the status of the plastic moulding industry as a front runner and has also catalyzed many countries to develop newer and more innovative machineries and practices to enable in making plastic molds of high quality. The newer methods of making plastic molds also ensure that the quality is not reduced in the hunt for power saver and wastage reducing practices.
For industrial uses there are basically two types of plastics that are used as raw materials; thermoplastics and thermosetting plastics. These two synthetic polymers have the amazing ability to be given desired shapes which makes them great materials to be used as plastic moulds. These amazing polymers have such unique abilities only due to the fundamental constituent and design of their molecular bonds. Therein lays their fundamental difference which causes the different responses towards energy like heat. Thermoplastics are simpler substances that have a chain of molecules in a straight line almost like a single dimensional piece of string. This causes it to easily melt when undergoing higher temperatures. On the other ...
... hand thermosetting plastics have three dimensional arrangements due to which it becomes hard when heated. The three dimensional arrangement makes it highly reliable in the manufacture of complex or smaller, essential parts.
The processes of making plastic molds are several and some of the important ones are Injection Moulding, Extrusion moulding, Blow moulding and Thermoforming.
Injection moulding- is the most common process for making plastic moulds and is also the cheapest. The process involves putting the molten plastics into the heating chamber by a hopper. Then the plastic is put in a mould and allowed to cool allowing it to harden and take up the required shape. The mould casts are shaped by precision based machines and mostly the plastics form a single part of a larger product. This type of production is quite common because large quantities can be manufactured at lower labor costs.
Extrusion Moulding is almost same as Injection moulding and the only fundamental difference being that the plastic is heated and put into the pre shaped moulds. The end product is then cooled with water and finishing touches are given.
Blow Molding is generally a process of making plastics items with hollow parts. The plastics are heated into desired parts and then blown which results in desired items. This process is usually used to make plastic bottles, drums and tanks, etc.
The above processes are the most important methods of order plastic mould with the maximum precision and lesser contamination.
