When people first start thinking about renting a dedicated server for their website, or multiple websites, they often believe that these servers are very complicated to run, maintain, and use on a daily basis. In fact dedicated servers are very easy to use, and typically anyone who has a mouse and keyboard can work with them. However, even those servers and the control panels that go along with them are incredibly user-friendly, they do still have limitations, and you can’t expect them to do everything on your site.

It’s true that web servers are complicated pieces of machinery made up of bits, bytes, and chips. Luckily, all of these components are virtually transparent to the you when you log onto that same web server. That’s because once you have a website up and running, you’ll be able to access and use your dedicated server through a control panel, such as Cpanel on Linux.

Control panels, no matter what type of panel or operating system you’re using, are your access point whenever you want to do anything on the server. Control panels will ...
... allow you to create more email addresses, install common scripts such as Formmail, perform back up on all the data included on the server, and perform many other functions. These functions are very easy to perform, with the control panels being very well laid out and easy to understand. With a few simple clicks of the mouse, you’ll be able to perform whatever tasks you need to while inside the control panel.

However, control panels do still have boundaries and only certain functions that they were meant to do. If you already have a website that you need a server for, the chances are good that you will be able to do whatever you need to for it through your control panel. However, if you don’t already have a website, you cannot expect a control panel to create one for you. This is actually a very common mistake made when webmasters are trying to get a website up and running.

Dedicated servers are simply meant to house, or to store, websites that are already online, or are just waiting to be activated live online. These servers, and the control panels within them, are not meant to build or design websites. For this, you will need to have the website design capacity or know-how to do it, or hire a web designer to do it for you. Likewise, if there is ever a problem with the design of your website once it’s live online, you’ll need to work on this through the coding of your website. This is because control panels don’t deal with the design of a site, although they can place certain features on a website.

Dedicated servers are very easy to use, but that doesn’t mean that they can do anything and everything you need done with your website. While they can efficiently and effectively help your website perform better, they can’t actually create your entire site for you. For that, you’ll need a web designer just as much as you need a good dedicated server!
