Pinhole Glasses: A Unique And Healthy Alternative
Not many people have heard about pinhole eyeglasses, but they can be an interesting alternative to eyeglasses or contacts in the correct situations. These unique glasses are often used as an inexpensive backup for prescription glasses. They are manufactured from an opaque material such as plastic or metal, and are designed to provide clearer vision and also to exercise the eyes naturally.
Pinhole glasses are made to be used when remaining still, like when you are reading or watching a film, and should not be used when in motion, especially when driving, as they can reduce your peripheral vision.
They work at any distance, thus eliminating the need for a bi-focal or tri-focal lens. The glasses themselves are lightweight and usually appear similar to stylish sunglasses in design. The lenses are usually dark and they actually block some ultraviolet (UV) light, due to their largely opaque nature. However, pinhole glasses ...
... should not be used as a substitute for quality sunglasses, which afford a higher degree of UV protection. Of course, you should never look directly at the sun in any situation, regardless of what type of glasses you are wearing.
While pinhole glasses function great in normal lighting, they may not be good for extreme low light conditions, since the amount of light actually entering the eye is being reduced by the lens. However, they do grant a degree of clarity and object brightness you may not achieve with your normal eye wear.
Pinhole glasses are also entirely unaffected by scratches, smudges, and blemishes, which would otherwise hamper vision with traditional eye wear. Most people can automatically adapt to pinhole glasses, but some notice the pinholes (called the "honeycomb effect") at first and may take a short time to get used to them. Once they are accustomed to the glasses, most people appreciate a marked difference in their visual acuity.
Pinhole glasses cannot replace normal glasses in every situation, but they can be a healthy alternative for people with certain conditions, and can be used to reduce eye strain in certain situations, such as when reading or viewing a computer monitor for extended periods.
Mike has been writing and publishing articles about health products. He recently came across a website on pinhole glasses which gave information about this old technique of using pinhole glasses for eyesight correction. Mike himself had tried the product and found it quite beneficial. Here's an article about pinhole glasses.
