Much emphasis is laid on the importance and the benefits of team building in professional environment. A team infuses a sense of being a part of the larger picture. It has a lot to do with the understanding of the mission, vision and objectives of the organization.

Every team member contributes to the overall success of the organization, working in unison to produce optimum and positive results. Despite having a specific job function and belonging to a specific department, each individual is unified with the other organization members to accomplish the overall objectives. That’s what the buzz word is ‘see the larger picture’; but it should be understood that developing an overall sense of team work is different from building an effective, focused work team.

Effective team work can only be produced when each member of the team is complimentary to each other. Team work is the output of a healthy team formed to accomplish a specific goal. Failure to understand that building a team is important rather than emphasizing on team work is primarily responsible for fall- outs and not achievement of desired results. ...

Organizations consider team-based, horizontal, organization structures as the best design for involving all employees in creating business success and rightly so an organization that works in tandem is an organization that grows in tandem with the demands adding to overall profits.

Successful team building, that creates effective, focused work teams, requires a few basic steps which can go a long way in procuring optimum results;

*The team leader should clearly communicate the expectations.
*Every team member should understand why the team was created.
*Every member should be clear on the position of the team vis-à-vis the organizational goals.
*Every member should be in conformity to the means to achieve the ends.
*Team members should be self-committed to be a part of the team and in achieving the desired results.
*There is no place for egos in a team. There is no one less or more important than each individual team member.
* Lastly, even being just a part of the whole, each individual team member should give his whole to make the whole, complete.

team building and team work are the inseparable parts of the whole, only when the two parts are in unison, will the whole be complete. Teams work indoors as well as outdoors. Indoor teams are basically the strategists who formulate plans and the outdoor teams are the actionists who implement these strategies as envisioned by the planners. Desired results are the output of the synchronization these two; the indoor team and the outdoor team.
