An Overview Of All The Audi A4 Engines For Sale In 2002

Based on Volkswagen Group’s all-new B6 platform, the new Audi A4 was launched late in year 2000. Plagiarised from the second generation A6, car’s new styling became a great success. The 1.6-litre base model’s engines remained the same as before but most of the other petrol engines either received an increase in displacement or upgrades in power. The 1.8-litre 20-valve turbo engines for sale were available in two versions, a 148bhp and a 178bhp, with 6-speed manual gearbox. Naturally aspirated 1.8-litre and 2.8-litre V6 engines were replaced by a 2.0-litre and a 3.0-litre aluminium engines. Each of these engines have 5-valves per cylinder and the most powerful engine was able to generate 217bhp and a torque of 300Nm.

The Audi A4 diesel 1.9-litre turbocharged direct injection engine was upgraded with Pumpe Duse technology, power increased to 128bhp and became Quattro four-wheel drive, while the 2.5-litre V6 TDI was introduced with Quattro as standard and power upgraded to178bhp. As a standard, the default dynamic torque distribution from front to rear ...
... for Quattro generation is 50:50. There were plenty of standard features that came across the range such as electronic brake force distribution (EBD), anti-lock braking system (ABS) and brakes assist. All the Audi A4 engines for sale received a power upgrade in 2002. The 1.8-litre turbo engines had their power upgraded to 161bhp and 187bhp – the red T on the boot lid designated the 187bhp variant, both the engines were available with Quattro – whereas the 2.5-litre TDI version was updated to 161bhp.

The 2.0-litre fuel stratified injection (FSI) engine was also available for sale. Almost a year later the S4 – with a mighty 339bhp 4.2-litre V8 engine – was introduced along with an A4 Cabriolet variant. The roof was operated by electro-hydraulic system and could be lowered in less than 30 seconds. The driver seat is adjustable for not only height but reach and tilt as well. The steering wheel is adjustable too which helps in attaining a comfortable driving position. The 2.0 litre engine gets cloth trim whereas all other models get leather seats. There is good legroom at the back and a good boot space for a saloon of this size. All cars come equipped with electric windows, electric wing mirrors, air-con, cruise control, and remote central locking and 10-speaker CD player sound system.

By the name of multitronic, a new continuously variable transmission (CVT) was introduced by Audi which was then used in the front wheel drive models as standard and replaced the old conventional automatic gearbox. Due to its promptness in response and light weight, this gearbox was regarded as the best of its kind globally. This gearbox was made of highly durable metals and driven by high strength chain. A very high grade, fully synthetic lubricant was purposefully designed to be used in this gearbox for greater performance. Despite of all these efforts put in by Audi to make an outstanding gearbox, there were some problems reported. Some of the problems were of mechanical nature while the others were electronic glitches that cannot be fixed by far.
