So you enjoy eating out and trying new and exciting foods and flavours and there are so many restaurants to choose from these days that you don’t really know where else to go. Well if you haven’t tried the Society Restaurant then where have you been? It is one of the best Italian restaurants in Melbourne and is of premier quality. They have a cocktail lounge and also function room venues. They serve superb Italian fare and the wine and cocktails are amazing. The reason that this restaurant stands out from all the others is because it has first class service with very attentive staff, it has an outstanding length of history and it has become a familiar place where everyone knows the Society Restaurant. This Melbourne restaurant was opened back in 1932 by a gentleman called Giuseppe Codognotto who was an immigrant from Italy, he so wanted to open a restaurant in Melbourne as there was such a huge Italian community and yet nothing really for them to eat and nowhere for them to get together and so the Society Restaurant was opened and has been the place for many memories.

... and because it became so popular they had to move to another venue in 1932 on Bourke Street. This venue has had many owners and many different names but once it became the Society it has always been a place of great food and wonderful dining ever since.
In the 1940s and during the war the Italian reference which is in the name had to be dropped. After moving to Lygon Street the people of Melbourne took the Italian food which became Melbourne food and their hospitality to their hearts and the daughter and son of Giuseppe too. Rino who is Giuseppe’s son eventually took over the restaurant and was the front man of The Society and produced what has become the best food in Melbourne and is also one of the original Spaghetti Mafia. It was called this by the media because they brought what they thought to be Italian hospitality of the finest quality to Melbourne restaurants.
The food in Melbourne which this restaurant has to offer is excellent, the Society restaurant has what is called the Express Business Lunch, which is available from Monday through to Friday and will cost you as little as $20 per person. They offer you a one course meal which is of your choice and you will also have the choice of Italian red or white which is a premium glass of wine. You will be served Ciabatta bread which is also served with a balsamic and olive oil dip and a wonderful coffee which they are famous for at the end of a wonderful meal.
