Italy is the famous catholic pilgrimage destination that receives millions of devotees every year. The article talks about famous pilgrimage places in Italy, things to see on your catholic tour, and more.

Rome, Italy, is the best Catholic pilgrimage destinations for those who are planning for a holy trip. However, there are also many other areas in Italy that offer visual and spiritual nourishment. Each Italy pilgrimage focuses on spiritual nourishment through prayer, reflections, fellowship, and meeting with local people.

Situated in the Tuscan region of Italy is the city of Pisa, where the leaning tower is situated. Cathedral of Pisa is another famous attraction of the city. Cathedral Pisa was constructed beginning in the year 1093. The primary architect was Buscheto who was entombed in arches of the cathedral. Buscheto died before he completed construction and Rainaldo continued the project.

Later in 1595, a tragic fire laid most of the medieval artwork which cathedral of Pisa had. However, the best Renaissance artists were commissioned to reconstruct Cathedral of Pisa. Their contribution made the cathedral ...
... to remain a symbol of Pisan-Romanesque art up to date.

Other areas to visit in cathedral:

When you visit Italy ensure that you visit Pisa. The cathedral includes a lot of beautiful artwork that are unique. When you are at the vast nave of Cathedral, you will view impressive Cosmatesque Marble pavement which are painted and has lovely dome above it. In the same region, you will see majestic tomb, which was designed by Tino. On the southern part is the pair of cherubs, which is the masterpiece of Ghirlandaio.

Included in Cathedral of Pisa is the famous pulpit which was designed by Giavanno Pisano. After the 1595 fire tragedy, the workers who were hired to renovate the cathedral were not impressed with the appearance of the pulpit. For that reason, they dismantled it and hide it in a crate. However, in the year 1926 the pulpit was found and was restored in the right place.

Another place that you should not miss on Italy pilgrimage is entrance pier of the cathedral. There in the entrance is ST. Agnes with a Lamb. This glorious painting was done by a High Renaissance artist Andrew del Sarto. On the same region you will see bronze angels with crucifix made by Gaimbologan.

Even though the visiting hours to Cathedral of Pisa depend on the date of your visit, the Cathedral is open every day. Cathedral of Pisa charges little entrance fee and that is why it is the best for those who have a strict budget.

Even when you have allocated a very short period of time of your visit to Italy, it is still economical that you visit the city of Pisa. The leaning Tower and the Cathedral are just near each other and you will need only a day to visit both of them.
