The laws governing crossbows are complicated because of its similarity with archery weapons and firearms and because of its lethality. The U.S., as is the case with other countries in the developed world, has strict crossbow laws. It is important that you understand the laws governing crossbows if you own Horton crossbows. These laws vary ...
... from one state to the next.

Private ownership, purchase, and use of Horton crossbows for target shooting is perfectly legal in all 50 states. Most of the states require you to have a license or a disability for crossbow hunting. If you have lost the use of your arm or hand and you are unable to use a regular bow, you can use your crossbow for turkey and deer hunting even if it is Eastern spring turkey season or archery-only open season.

Most of these laws are common across different states. In most states, you cannot use the device to hunt migratory game, including birds and wildlife. In states like Texas, you are not allows to use bows in the muzzeloader season.

In most states, Washington being an example, you can legally use the weapon during seasons where it is legal to use firearms, and vice versa. In almost all states, there are laws with regard to the type of animal you can hunt using the weapon and you should check before using Horton crossbows.

Most states only allow people who are licensed to carry concealed weapons to carry bows. In most states, you are allowed to use the Horton Crossbows to hunt unprotected non-game animals. This means, as an example, you can use them to hunt animals that have been terrorizing your crop fields.

You must use a weapon that has a draw of over 40 pound for hunting animals. The only exception is when you are hunting squirrel. The 40-pound draw is important because it ensure that the animal is killed on first draw. This prevents suffering. In most states, you can legally use bows that have partial or full draw locks. The draw requirement is higher in some states (in Nevada it is 125 pounds). You can use Horton Crossbows that have telescopic sights to hunt all game animals apart from migratory game birds during turkey and open season.

It is illegal to hunt using Horton Crossbows in Oregon, irrespective of the season. In Wisconsin, you cannot use the weapon for hunting unless you are over 65 years old or you are disabled and you have an archery hunting license. There are, however, no restrictions during gun deer season. In states like West Virginia, a licensed physician must submit that you are unable to use a bow and arrow (in this case to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources) for you to be considered.
