Venus Williams Bio And Statistics
Venus’s full name is Venus Ebony Starr Williams. I guess her parents knew from her birth she was destined for greatness. Venus has previously stated that her favorite part of her name is the double ‘r’ in ‘Starr’.
• She first picked up a racquet when she was just four years old.
• She is one half of the famous William Sisters, the other half being Serena Williams.
• Besides Serena, she has three other sisters- Yetunde, Isha, Lyndrea, all of them older that her.
• In September 2003, tragedy struck her family when Venus’s sister, Yetunde was found murdered.
• All five girls were raised in the disciplines of a Jehovah witness by their mother who was a devout believer herself.
• Venus and her sister Serena trained at the Nick Bollettieri tennis academy, but they were removed by their father after preying victims to some racial slurs by other parents.
• After this their father, Richard, decide to coach them by himself in the public tennis courts of Compton. He was determined to make at least one of his girls a tennis superstar. Looks like he did his job really ...

•Venus made her professional debut, aged 14, on 31st October 1994, at the Bank of the West Classic Tournament in Oakland.
• By 1997, Venus Williams was able to break into the top 50 and by 1998, she managed to make it to the top 10.
• 1997 was also the year that she made her Grand Slam debut, which was at the French Open and recorded her first Grand Slam Final, which was at the US Open.
• She won her first Grand Slam title in 2000 at the Wimbledon.
• She was just fifteen when she received her first endorsement deal with eight figures. The contract was with Reebok.
• Venus won the ‘Most impressive newcomer’ of the year award in 1997. The following year, her sister, Serena, took home the title. Together they were named the "Doubles Team of the Year" in 2000.
• The duo has faced each other in twenty different competitions. They have had the unique privilege of playing against each other four consecutive grand slam tournament finals- The French Open, Wimbledon, US Open and the Australian Open, in that particular order.
