How To Care For Your Sarees
Sarees are an inseparable part of a woman's various outfits. However, maintaining a saree can be tricky and expensive. In fact, the lovely kancheevarams, banarasi brocades, patolas and shalus should be maintained well as they are expensive and precious parts of any lady’s wardrobe. Since most sarees online are bought on special, memorable occasions, every saree should be kept in a way that it lasts for years together and you feel like wearing it over and over again. Here are a few quick fixes to help you maintain your six-yard wonders for years together!
Before we share what can be done to maintain an exclusive Indian saree, identifying the fabric is the most essential part. This is because every material has a different set of dos and don’ts. Here we spell out each one of them just for you.
Cottons: Cotton sarees demand quite a bit of care, though this type can be washed at home. A word of caution: Cotton sarees, especially dark colours, like red, maroon, mustard, green, turquoise blue bleed. Hence, these sarees need to be washed one at a time with a soft, superior quality of diluted detergent. Also, please ...
... do not soak these for long in water. These should also not be exposed to too much sun while drying. It is sensible to dry them in shade or past sunset so that these do not fade.
Two-coloured or multicoloured cotton sarees cannot be washed at home even if the second colour is only on the borders. Dry cleaning is only option here as there is always a chance of bleeding and mixing the two colours.
Tissues and Organzas: Many beautiful sarees online are available in tissue and organza. These sarees should ideally be dry cleaned as far as possible. Also, do not these hanging for very long, as the shape of the saree can get spoiled. Soft plastic or wooden hangers are a lot better than the metal ones. Alternatively, fold these sarees and wrap them in a muslin cloth. Refolding tissue and organza sarees help in preserving a saree.
Chiffons and Georgettes: A chiffon and georgette saree is perhaps the loveliest of all Indian sarees, as they are delicate. Selecting an experienced dry cleaner is necessary. Also, after the saree is cleaned do not wrap these very tight. Also, using saree pins can tear these so using them frugally is an intelligent idea.
Silks: Silks are best preserved in dry and dark portions of the cupboard. Wrapping these in soft cotton cloth is important, as this allows fresh air to pass through and breathes life into the saree. These should be ironed on medium temperature. Also, water should not be sprayed as it can leave stains.
You could wear a saree two-three times before dry cleaning a saree. Frequent dry cleaning can also weaken the garment.
Buy sarees online without worrying about their upkeep if these pointers are kept in mind well. This way you can maintain and wear a saree of your choice for years together.
