Eligibility Criteria

Students aspiring to appear for the common entrance test CMC Vellore should fulfil the following eligibility criteria as per the CMC Vellore examination norms.

Eligibility for the MBBS course

Candidates should have cleared a qualifying exam equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary Examination from a recognized educational board or university, after completing 12 years of study. The immediate last two years of the study should compulsorily have Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as full subjects. The student aiming for MBBS at Christian Medical College Vellore must have a minimum of 60 per cent marks at the 10+2 level in each of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. More specifications about the necessary subjects are available on the college website and there is some relaxation for the students belonging to the SC and ST category. It is important for students to have cleared these exams in the English language and they should have cleared all subjects of the qualifying examination at one and the same attempt in all the subjects.

Also, it is mandatory for the candidates to have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or should complete the said age on or before 31st December of the year of admission.

Eligibility for all other courses

Candidates who have qualified for the MBBS degree of the Madras University or any other university recognized as equivalent by the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University and the Medical Council of India. It is also important for them to complete their compulsory rotating residential internship and obtained full registration before the required date of application for the postgraduate diploma and degree courses.

Candidates having qualified for a postgraduate diploma course may also apply for a Postgraduate degree (MS/MD) course in the same subject. Post diploma candidates with a diploma in the same subject need to undergo 2 years of training for the degree.

What to expect at CMC entrance exam

The exam comprises of a written test which has a General Paper (GP) and a Special Paper (SP). The GP consists of a multiple choice type of a question paper wherein questions revolve around subjects taught at the undergraduate level. Revising the undergraduate curricula is the key here. The Special Paper consists of multiple choice questions in the specialization aspired by the candidate and subjects related to it.
