A Guide To Bottle Openers

The history of bottle openers dates back to before 1892. Bottles back in the beginning use to be held with a cork, much like a wine bottle is today. This basically means they were totally close to impossible to open. You can demonstrations of the dander of corks by painter William Hamilton Trood.

In February of 1892, William Painter invented what was known as the Crown Cork. It resembled a bottle cap that is still used today. The problem back then, however, was that no one wanted to even have anything to do with the openers because no one knew how to open them. Beer drinkers everywhere would be identified by the scars that were left on their fingers and knuckles.

However, all the problems of the bottle openers were solved in 1894 when William Painter came up with a whole new idea. He came up with what was called the Churckey opener. This made things so much easier as these were an easy way to remove tear off corks. William also went on to patent a seat in passenger trains made for ejecting in the event of a crash, much like the ones on airplanes.

... explosion as far as the bottle industry was concerned. It turns out that the crown corks were not only easy to remove but they were also great for maintaining freshness and carbonation. With this, the soda pop industry was founded.

In 1925, Starr Corporation began making bottle openers that could be mounted on the wall. The bar blade opener became a huge hit throughout bars in New York in the 1950’s. There were suddenly ads everywhere for these amazing openers.

The current bottle opener came to light in 1966 when scientists in Germany made the opener more standard. From the 1970’s through the 1990’s, there were literally hundreds of new opener designs to hit the market. But people still preferred bottle openers that were based on functionality instead of actual looks.

There was one exception to the function over form concept. There was a Japan design that let people easily yank off a bottle cap with just one simple stroke. Paul Cifka is the founder of Be Open. He was at a wedding when he discovered that an exciting way to open bottles. In just a few short years, his openers are selling at retail outlets throughout the United States. The industry of bottle opening has never been the same since then.

Bottles openers are used for popping open beers and other beverages at a beach party, backyard BBQ or day out on the lake. Gone are the days of scarred up fingers and knuckles! Enter the days of one stoke, easy open bottle openers!
