Clyde Aspevig was born in 1951 on the remote faraway Montana’s Hi-Line. He started painting at the age of nine. It was while Clyde was attending Eastern Montana College in the 1970s that he came across a few good samples of art. At the University his mentor was Professor Ben Steele. Inspired by the wide horizons of Wyoming and Montana, Clyde Aspevig is a landscape artist who paints on location and finishes it off in the studio. He had very little formal training in painting. Clyde Aspevig admired artists John Singer Sargent, Anders Zorn, and Winslow Homer and studied their works. For a year Clyde Aspevig taught in Sandy, Oregon High School. After that he returned to Montana with his wife, artist Carol Guzman and took to painting full time. Clyde Aspevig and his wife have lived in Loveland, Colorado. He remodelled a very old church for his studio. Clyde Aspevig travels far and wide to paint, throughout North America, the Southwest and the West, the Caribbean, England, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, and the Netherlands.

... He was the first artist after Charles Russell to Exhibit at the Grand Central Galleries in New York City. In 1990 the National Academy of Western Art awarded the Frederic Remington Award for Exceptional Artistic Merit to Clyde Aspevig. He has been honoured two times by The Rockwell Museum in Corning, New York, with solo exhibitions in 1991 and 2005. Clyde Aspevig feels that through his paintings he establishes a spiritual communion with nature that results in his whole hearted celebration of life. Clyde Aspevig is one of America’s best landscape artists and his works are collected all over the world.

In 1997, he won the Prix de West Purchase Award from the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. At the Masters of the American West Fine Art Exhibition and Sale, he has garnered the 2007 Masters of the American West Purchase Award, given in recognition of the work acquired for the Autry National Centre of the American West’s permanent collection, for his painting Raindrops and Dragonflies; the 2006 John J. Geraghty Award in recognition of his advancement of contemporary Western art; and the 2004 Artists’ Choice Award for his painting The Headwaters. Clyde Aspevig is represented by Trailside Galleries, Jackson, Wyoming, and Scottsdale, Arizona.
