The western part of India has some lovely destinations and many of them are nestled in isolated corners, thereby giving Mumbai and Pune residents a quiet getaway. If you live in Pune, then you can always head to Mumbai! And if you reside in Mumbai, you can always walk over to Pune! There are hundreds of places to visit in Mumbai including the famous bays and beaches of Marine Drive, Juhu and Chowpatty. But if you are looking for some nearby locations, then here are a few options you can explore:

i. Jawhar: Jawhar is a small hill station which has a quaint charm and a tribal persona. Its cashew trees and notable attractions like the Jai Vilas Palace and Hanuman Point make it a reliable retreat away from the cacophonous Mumbai.

ii. Bordi: Bordi is another popular place which is noted for its pristine beach and wonderful set of trees. It is a quiet and nature-filled place which will surely give your soul some respite.
iii. Lonar: Lonar is one of the most thrilling tourist places near Pune. It is a giant crater ...
... which is believed to have been formed many years ago from some meteor collision. The crater has turned into a lake and stays filled with green water. The ambience is very nice and the surroundings are poetic.

iv. Kashid: Kashid is another beautiful beach with plenty of sand and a lovely bird sanctuary in the vicinity. The Phansad Bird Sanctuary definitely adds diversity to this place and makes it a complete destination where you can enjoy the sea and also feast on the fauna.

v. Raigad Fort: Amongst the many places to visit in Pune and Mumbai, the old and decaying Raigad Fort is pretty unique. Its black walls have nearly turned emerald due to overgrowth of ferns but its historic popularity refuses to die. It was built by the great warrior Shivaji. Hence, it encompasses a certain amount of Maratha pride and sentiment.

vi. Durshet: Durshet is one of the unexplored treasures of the region. It is a forest-crested region with densely packed trees, rocks and streams scattered in every nook and corner. If you are interested in butterflies, bees and birds, then there is no place better than Durshet in the whole of western India. Its popularity is slowly growing and it is now being counted amongst the most soulful tourist places near Pune.
A few other places you can explore near Mumbai or Pune are Lonavla, Panshet Dam, Bhatgar Dam and Harihareshwar.
