The Burj Khalifa: Dubai’s Crowning Glory

Dubai is one of the best holiday destinations in the world and one of its tallest attractions (in both literal and figurative sense) is the Burj Khalifa. Its biggest claim to fame is that it is the tallest manmade structure in the world. A testimony of man’s genius and an ultimate epitome of engineering, this structure is so tall that it can put The Great Khali to shame!

Situated (rather dominating) the famed Sheikh Zayed Road, Burj Khalifa is easily the biggest attraction of the country and is included in all Dubai holiday packages and Dubai tour packages. It is a definite best place to visit in Dubai. In fact, if you return to your home country after spending a week in Dubai and not witnessing this giant building, then better not reveal this piece of embarrassing information to anyone! People might just spit at you, and the peripatetic society may very well banish you from their company. Visiting Dubai and not visiting the Burj Khalifa would be like having watched cricket but not seen Tendulkar’s exploits!

Okay, enough of ranting! Now, coming to statistics (since most readers are stats-loving geeks and ...
... won’t believe a word we are saying unless we wrap it up with figures), this tower (yes, the Burj Khalifa) is 829.8 m or 2,722 feet (yes, it’s that high)! By the way, this stats bit is plagiarized information (directly lifted from Wikipedia) and so you can be sure that we are not bloating up the figures. Oh, and did we tell you that it took the men around 5 years to complete the construction? The work that began in 2004 ended up in 2009 (again, refer Wikipedia for more details)! The juicy bit for a tourist is that you are allowed to go up to the top (yes, you heard that right). There is an automatic elevator (don’t worry, you won’t have to climb the stairs) which will take you to the top in just around 1.5 minutes. From there, the scenery is just awesome, and you can finally look into the arrogant face of an eagle eye-to-eye. Dubai holiday packages let you virtually sail amidst the clouds and take snapshots of the sky and the ground beneath (it would be frightening).

And the famous Dubai Mall is just in the neighborhood of the Burj Khalifa!
