Understanding The Recommended Size Of Your Saddle Bag
Knowledge of what type of bike is suited to use a saddle bag is not such a challenge to most people. The confusion comes in when you are trying to figure out which saddle bag size is the right for the size of your bike.
Saddle Bag made out of leather is attractive to motorcycle owners for its flexible interior which can expand to create room for extra gear, and the fact that it is easy to mount and remove from the bike. It also has a unique built of support panels in its interior to keep it in shape even when laden with a lot of luggage.
With the saddle bag having such attractive features and utility, it is important that you understand what size is ideal for your bike especially when you are out for long road trips and need that much needed comfort.
Most Brands have five size categories of the saddle bag: Extra large, Medium Large, Medium and Small.
The Extra Large Size
This size is ideal for long road trips that require a lot of room to hold gear –the size as large as a full size helmet or two three quarter size helmets and also leave room. Hence if your are the owner of a 1500cc bike or ...
... a bigger bike such as a Honda Valkyrie or a Yamaha Road star, the extra large size saddle bag is ideal for you. These bikes have a big passenger seat which can accommodate the diameter and length of the bag.
The Large Size Bag
It is quite similar to the extra large size saddle bag except for the difference in length. Most bike owners of large cruiser bikes such as the VTX 800 or bikes with 1500cc and above prefer this size of bag to the extra large size which has a larger look appearance of which they don’t like. They however still get the benefit of enough room to hold a full size helmet and back support.
The Medium-Large Size Bag
It is estimated to provide 25% more room than the medium sized bag but has similar diameter. As the owner of a bike such as the Harley V-Rod or Sportster which have a smaller seat that cannot allow an Extra large size or large size, this is ideal for you to avoid being pushed too far forward for an uncomfortable ride.
The Medium Size Bag
This size can only accommodate two half helmets or thirty cans of soda. A comparison of the medium-large size bag to the medium size bag, it is preferred and recommended that you utilize the medium size bag since its ideal for trips of just short distance and do not involve an overnight travel.
The Small Bag
This is ideal if you own a smaller bike or a scooter or your preference is to have the look of a low profile bag.
