Add A New Dimension To Your Life With Upcycled Products
Upcycling and recycling are not just two different terms; they are two entirely different concepts as well. Upcycling focuses on reusing materials in such a way that their longevity will be increased and will also benefit the world in a broader sense of the word. Upcycled products are art but in a very practical and usable form. Recycling goods that will eventually be discarded is not called upcycling. When you transform a particular item into something of greater use which is more long-lasting than the original one, you have upcycled the product.
For instance, you can gift close friends and family, recycled gifts or upcycled ones as well. A few examples of upcycled products will make this concept a little clearer. Denim as a material is very commonly used by many people mostly in clothing like jeans. Let’s take a look at how denim can be used in upcycled products.
Denim beach or laundry bag
Though jeans made of denim are very sturdy and rarely wear-out easily, people may not keep them for too long for numerous reasons. Weight gain and weight-loss can mean that the perfectly good pair of jeans gets pushed ...
... into the recesses of your wardrobe. Children tend to outgrow clothes fast and their jeans have to be discarded even before they wear out. In some cases excessive use leads to discoloration and fraying and you might have to discontinue using them. However, turning those pairs of old jeans into a sturdy beach or laundry bag can mean that the material, now in its changed form will last for several years.
A wrap or frame-skirt
Denim drapes are used in certain kinds of window coverings, especially in rooms that have an excessive amount of sunlight. If you tire of that particular look the material can always be used for a wrap or an A-frame skirt. Both of these designs are traditional but classic ones and somehow never seem to go out of style. In addition to this, denim skirts last longer than a pair of denim jeans do as the skirt hems do not come in contact with the ground. Another plus is that the waistlines can be very conveniently let out or taken in if you happen to lose or gain weight.
Denim bibs
Anyone who has kids will know how important bibs are when your children are growing up. Old jeans, skirts and drapes can be cut out and combined with linen to make interesting-looking and durable bibs. These can be monogrammed as well.
Denim pillows
Throw pillows are very commonly used on living room couches and are used as accent pieces. Old denim products can be cut out and sewn into pillow/cushion covers. They can be adorned with buttons, laces and sequins to add an interesting touch to the material.
These were just a few examples of how you can upcycle products and use them as recycled gifts. There could be several such products in your home that are in a good condition but cannot be used, for one or the other reason, Upcycling them is a great way to keep using them and avoiding waste. In the bargain, you do your bit for the environment too.
