When it comes to technology businesses all over the world rely on Hewlett-Packard. Linear Tape Open technology emerged as breakthrough technology in the backup industry and revolutionized it. LTO technology was expected to go out of its way in satisfying the needs of its customers by not only performing the basic functions of the tape but also by enhancing the efficiency of the business.

... of HP LTO2 tape. This was the second generation of Linear Tape Open technology and two times more efficient than its first generation. The first generation was able to store 100 GB of raw data but the lto2 by HP was capable of storing 200 GB of raw data. The exciting feature of the tape is that it allows for 2:1 compression rate which enhances the storage capacity to 400 GB. The processing speed also increased by 100% as it rose from 20 Megabytes’ per second for the first generation to 40 Megabytes’ per second for HP LTO2 tape. The highlight of the tape was that it switched to PRML encoding from LTO1 from LTO2. This form of encoding allowed the tape to perform its basic functions in a more efficient and timely manner.

HP LTO2 tape was a breakthrough in the mediums of backup technology because of it’s incredibly small and compact size. The traditional data storage mediums were bulky, complex and also the operations were also manually handled by IT staff. This situation was creating a problem for businesses because most offices had very little storage capacities. The compact size created more shelf and storage space for businesses that could be used productively. The tape length is 609m, it has 512 tracks, 8 write elements and 16 wraps per band.

The last most talked about feature of HP LTO2 tape is its price. Most products of backup technology that are created with advanced technology and include high performance features are charged at a very high price. The manufacturers charge a high margin and exploit customers because they need the backup technology. HP on the other hand, compromises on the margins but provides the premium quality of the product at lower prices. HP LTO2 tape is a tape that is ideal for small to medium sized businesses because of its price, which does not infringe any burden on the cash flows of the business and because of its data storage capacity.
